Specifying Body Armor: Threat Levels and Fit
Start with the threat, not the price. NIJ levels describe protection against specific test rounds; they do not guarantee comfort or coverage.
Fit matters as much as the rating. A plate that rides too low leaves the upper chest exposed; a carrier that is too tight restricts breathing under load.
Ask for the test report and the manufacturer quality process, and replace soft armor within its stated service life.
