Securing a Container Port: A Field Report

September 24, 2026 President

A port security team needed to detect drones above crane height at night. Radar sited near the water gave the widest coverage, but sea clutter needed careful tuning.

Thermal cameras along the crane line confirmed tracks and captured usable evidence, while RF sensors near the gate covered the likely launch area.

The hardest part was authority, not technology: who authorises a response over a working terminal. Writing that memo took longer than the installation.

  1. The authority question is the whole project. Our radar sat unused for months until the response protocol was signed.
